Same Difference.

One of the biggest falsehoods that people assume when you're a twin is, "Oh! You have twice as many clothes!"

Wrong.

We have A LOT of clothes between us, but rarely do we have duplicates (save, of course, for a handful of jeans and v-necks. And socks.). Instead, we do a "clothes shuffle" and cart, back and forth, filled-to-the-brim bags between our places.

This "share and share alike" mentality has come to fruition over the last two weekends. We bought this mustard colored dress (I loved the cut of the dress and she loved the color) at a [not so local] thrift store and we had our own ideas of how to wear it.

I knowwww that we're wearing the same jangles and belts, but she's in a faux leather jacket and thigh highs! I'm in wooden platforms and denim jacket (not shown)! Kinda different! Kinda the same!

ME: I went for the whole "ladies who lunch (in desert climate)" look. I added a touch of "southwestern flavor" to Robertson Blvd. that afternoon. The face? Quasi-rich people and the lurking papparazzi frighten me.
Same Difference.
VERSUS

SHE: Jaya went the "Necessary Roughness" route and threw on some mean shades, a faux leather jacket, and a chunky knit sock.

Ohhh, we should try this experiment again and TRY HARDER. Seriously, different jangles, different color schemes, and, maybe, different faces? UGHHHHH, were are you weirdo female model from What I Hate About Me?! You WERE AWESOME.

**A LITTLE EXTRA: Where did we get this awesome idea to dress the same but different? We stole it, natch. Specifically from the Dinner Party Download's interview with the Watson Twins (listen to it because it's brillant). The Watson Twins said that they wished that they had a food show where they each get the same ingredients BUT (here's the twist) they make two totally different dishes. WHAT?! Brillant, right. Someone get a-choppin' and make this happen!

Winking-Eye Alcohol Suggestions.

Winking-Eye Alcohol Suggestion.
I love this jacket.

LOVE. IT.

It makes me feel like I could hang out with any one of these fabulous ladies seen on hel-looks.com, like her, or her, and of course her. We'd be BEST FRIENDS FOR LIFE.

Jacket from Old Navy.

About my facial expression: it's my nod to one of the funniest, drunkest, and chicken-clucking-est ("A-coodle do da doo! A-coodle do da doo!") ladies to grace the tv screen, LUCILLE BLUTH.

From IMDB:
Narrator: Lucille was suffering from a hangover-related headache and sought her medication. That's when she mistook the red eye alcohol warning for a winking-eye alcohol suggestion. But she had the good sense not to drive herself to the meeting.
Lucille: I'll call for a car.
Narrator: [shows the car on fire] Unfortunately, this was after a failed attempt to do so.

I'm.... STYLISH?

Christina, the blogger from Musing Of A Fatshionista,  recently wrote a "2009 Fatshion Recap: The Most Epic Fashion Post Ever!' post and she included myself (and a little bit 'o my sister).

What the WHAAAAATTT, am I right?

She found me through my Flickr account (I do all those fashion-y group dealies) and asked me if I wanted to participate. Her post exceeded all my expectations! She put together an impressive picture montage of "fatshionable" ladies.

This is just going to bolster my already "healthy"(aka high) self-esteem.

Here are a few of fine young (cannibals? She Drives Me Crazy look it up. greeeat song) ladies whose styles I want to cop in 2010.

001/ Hayley of Fashion Hayley

She has AWESOME shoes.

002/ Ida of IX-13

She makes me want to live in black pants/tights.

003/ Nana

004/ Sonia of Anomalous Allure

005/ MYSELF (and my sister) of A Giant Screamer and Hey It's Me Jaya?! Again, my healthy self-esteem.

There's a lot more pictures and gals that I am too lazy to show here so just go HERE to look at the rest.

I totalllly take back what I said in my last post. I'm not gonna be a Debbie Downer about this new year! This was a great way to end the '00s (the aughts? the naughty 00's? vomiiit. thanks jaya) and an even better way to start 2010 (the teens? right? right.). Yah! Fist pump!

Now excuse me while I go haunt these new found style muses.

"Is that a muppet face-hug on your... FACE?"

I am ON BOARD with fur collars worn as scarfs. It's like a super-soft muppet (my personal fav is Cookie Monster, natch) is hugging your face.

Ahhhhhh, a face hug from Cookie Monster with a little Grover thrown in IS NOW A DREAM OF MINE.

But since I'm not trolling around Sesame Street anytime soon, I'm going to keep on borrowing my sister's fur collars.

Here are some ladies who wear this look well:

She is ADORABLE. Found on Stockholm Street Style.

A fur collar + Swedish Hasbeens? NIIIICE. Found, I think, on Stil In Berlin.

Found this little lady on wardrobe_remix.

Gobble, Gobble (aka What I Did This Loooong Holiday Weekend) pt. II: More goofing around, and such.

The weekend, continued:

Saturday:
We, stupidly, went to Fry's Electronics in an attempt to spend a 'lil quality time with Pops, but it turned out to be a test in patience and German engineering.

The parking lot was a mind-fuck; it took 10+ minutes to get into the lot, but it turned out THERE WAS A LOT OF OPEN SPACES. Mind. FUCK.

Plus, we didn't really buy anything, except for AA batts and a couple of Air Dusters (nots for huffing, just for cleaning).

To make up for Fry's ass-facey-ness, Jaya and I made fools of ourselves in the (not even full, stupid) parking lot:

It looks like I'm trying to do my best impression of Sasquatch. GRRRRROWR.

9342394809238426th take. Knees were a'cracklin'.

HAHAHAHAH my favorite! She looks like a marionette puppet.

Reach for the STARS!

SUNDAY:
I think I watched the entire 2nd season of Stormchasers on Discovery and YES.  I love youse CRAZAZZZIE tornadoes, lightning storms, and turtle probes (mmm... that sounds creepy out of context).

I.
WAS.
GLUED.

I, in one point in my life, want to have the face-melting honor of seeing (in person), and then describing, a tornado as "beautiful/gorgeous," just like the crazy dudes of Stormchasers. I think that I was soooo taken in because it's almost December here in L.A. and it's, like, 80+ degrees outside. On Saturday, there was a high of 84 degrees! IN DECEMBER.

Plus, we eat some sushi over at Little Tokyo.

Anyway, ENJOY these pictures of the natural phenomenon that has captured my wind-strewn heart:

Gobble, Gobble (aka What I Did This Loooong Holiday Weekend) pt. I

I ate.

I baked.

I slept.

I pal-ed around with the family.

I watched A LOT of StormChasers on the Discovery Channel (NO JOKE. I forced Jaya to watch, like, 8+ hrs of Reed Timmer, Tim Samarias, and Sean Casey literally chase storms and tornadoes all over Middle America. Yes yes, it IS FASCINATING. I see you rollllling your eyes. DON'T JUDGE ME.).

DON'TS BELIEVE ME?! Here's some pictures and commentary to back up my story.

THURSDAY: Gobble Gobble Day.
For Thanksgiving dinner, J and I baked and baked, and then screwed up, and then baked some more. We ate the final products before we could take pictures, but we made a few things:
01/ Graham-cracker crust cheesecakes.
02/ Oreo-crusted cheesecakes.
03/ Graham cracker/Oreo crusted mousse pies/
04/ Chocolate mousse-filled napoleon-ish desserts with raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries.
05/ Bread.

Here is the delicious spread cooked mostly by my aunt. Thanks a'plenty!

Usually, I can bake a French loaf of bread like nobody's business, but I couldn't DO IT this Thanksgiving! Dannnngle! So here's is a picture of a better loaf from better time, a better place.

Here is what I wore (which is me, basically, wearing my favorite denim jacket and my favorite floral skirt. BIG SURPRISE) and me acting likes a goofsball!:

I scream for florals and brown shoes!

FRIDAY: Dad's Birthday! Many, many happy returns, DAD!
Soooo, the following day, there was even more eating and merry-making to be had because it was me dad's birthday! Jaya and I got him this amazing thing, as well as this Sans Rival cake (look it up- it's DIABOLICAL).

Here is the cake, after cut, before face-stuffing:
At one point, it did say, "Happy Birthday DAD."

Just Another Mixtape: November Issue

Hhhhhhoooohhhhh... almost forgot this post. Woka woka.

Be entertained with this while I catch up on my weekend/Thanksgiving post(s).

This month's mixtape tape theme over at [The Monthly Mixtape] was "1, 2, 3, 4"- meaning first song had to be one minute long, second song would be two minutes, and so on and so forth. Only catch: the playlist can only be 10 minutes long.

Coooool, cool. I decided to be a team player and I played by the rules (YOU CANNOT BOX ME IN!) and the theme. Here is what I came up with (I really tried hard not to make the last few songs completely instrumental and I think I did alll right):

This is what I sent to my pard'ner, witchywoman.
::11.09 Mixtape:: One, Two, Three, and More::
01/ Moments With Oliver: Rachel Yamagata
02/ Teenage Timebomb: The Okmoniks
03/ Tessellate: Toyko Police Club

05/ "En Gallop": Joanna Newsom
06/ Sunflower River Blue: John Fahey
07/ Sometime Later: Alpha
08/ Lament For The Aurochs: The Sword

10/ The Only Moment We Were Alone: Explosions In The Sky

And here is the playlist that she sent to me:

03/ The Songs That We Sing: Charlotte Gainsbourg

**OBLIGATORY PICTURE POST:

While she's rocking this one almost everyday:

Hahahahaha! How contradictory. Snag them from Print Liberation.
