Just Another Mixtape: April Issue.

The theme for this month's [The Monthly Mixtape] was a "geek" theme. I dunno, but I wasn't reeeeeally feelin' it. Maybe it was "a little derivative" ("'A parody's always a derivative.' 'But it's not organic, you know what I mean?'" Ohhh, I LOOOVE you, Kelly and Ryan!).

Anyway, I just reposted my "Open Windows" mixtape (it's a mixtape of music you'd want to hear playing out of an 'open window'. whhhaaa? self-explanatory?!) and it's a litttttle long.

**A side note to the young babies out there: no mixtape should really exceed 12 songs. I know some whiners out there are saying, "WHHHAAA? NOOOO! I have TONS of good music that everyone has to hear!!" NEWSFLASH: No. No ones wants to hear it. Get over yourself and learn some restraint.

With that being said, mine's 17 songs long (I know, I's a hypocrite), but really it's "transitional": first half is a daytime playlist which moves into the last half (aka 'nightime'). Ohhh, that sounds pretty "derivative" doesn't it?? Click on the title to download it (good for only the next 7 days). ENJOY.

**OBLIGATORY PICTURE POST: "Future Native American"/Because my sister dressed better than me:
Jaya FINALLY to wore her awwwesome indigenous necklace (bought in Solvang) outside of her apartment and I FINALLY convinced her that magenta/hot pink was "her color." This was the conversation we had at Sephora:

Jaya: (after applying magenta lipstick): I look like a future Native American.
Me: "Future" Native American? Are you becoming Native American? So, not futuristic Native America?
Jaya: *SILENT "I HATES YOU" LOOK*

***BECAUSE I'M FEELING IT: Minor Threat's Stumped
My sister sent me this Minor Threat song a while back and I just FELL IN LOVE with it. I suggest you give this a listen, maybe when you're getting ready to step out or if you want to dance yourself out of bed. AND DANCE AND DANCE AND DANCE AND DANCE.... AND DANCE AND DANCE!

Pippilotta Viktualia Rullgardina Krusmynta Efraimsdotter Långstrump (aka Pippi Longstocking).

The first time I came across Hel Looks a couple of years ago, I spent a good day and a half straight looking through the 96,000+ photos.

What kept me going (besides the AWESOME fashion, enviable hairstyles, inventive use of colors/layers/overcoats, the overwhelming patronage to "recycle centers"- aka thrift stores, and the DIY mentality towards bags/purses/accessories/everythinginlife) was how many gals stated "Pippi Longstocking" as an inspiration. A fictional book/tv/movie character as a STYLE-SPIRATION (thanks Jaya! repeater-disease is fighting its way through my tight-closed lips!)

Pippi Longstocking.

So, I went and watched the American version: The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking, and I was sadly underwhelmed. I probabbbbly should've watched it as a child, but I didn't and now I'm stuck with the idea that Pippi is just Liar McLiar-son in pigtails.

Then I went and watched the original Swedish version and I LOVED IT. I get it. Ragamuffin girl comes into town, shakes it up a bit, tangles with the local popos, and buys a lot of candy for a lot of (utterly adorable) children. Anyone with kids or anyone who's a Swedish-ophile (ahhhh, sounds dirty) should watch it (sidenotes: it's dubbed [boooooo!] but by the end you'll forget, and doing a backflip off the roof of a house will only land you in the hospital or dead in a ditch. watch it and you'll understand).

PICTURE MONTAGE TIME!

Villa Villekula (name of the house) is battling it out with the Beetlejuice house for the coveted spot in my heart, "House Of My DREAMS." Ohhhh, I just googles "Beetlejuice House" annnnd, STILL LOVE IT. #1! #1! #1!

LOOOOVE YOU.

Open Windows Mixtape.

The September theme for [The Monthly Mixtape] at Last.fm was "Open Windows." Here is the description:
What does that mean? For the last days of summer, or if you're on the southern half of the coin the first of spring, let's make a mix that you'd (like to) hear through the open windows of your neighbourhood. The laid-back tunes that just give you a good feeling, make you break into song, attracted to strangers and have you dance on the street... you know, the tunes that make you act like a drunk in the middle of the day. Have fun and good luck making it!
I was paired with A-bay, who I, miraculously, have a "musical compatibility of HIGH" (first time that has ever happened). This is the mixtape she sent me: 09.2009 Open Window Mixtape 01 Stars: My Favourite Book 02 Andrew Kenny & Ben Gibbard: You Remind Me of Home 03 James Morrison: You Give Me Something 04 Ben Kweller: Run 05 Missy Higgins: Peachy 06 Ukesperience: Oceanside 07 Tom Petty: Mary Jane's Last Dance 08 Matt White: Love 09 Mason Jennings: Keepin It Real 10 Feist: I Feel It All 11 Meiko: How Lucky We Are 12 Sondre Lerche & Regina Spektor: Hell No 13 The Rolling Stones: Happy 14 Michael Jackon: Enjoy Yourself 15 Chairlift: Bruises I've only listened to the mix, fully, once and it was all right. There are some hits (Feist is always good, as is Tom Petty) and misses (ugggghhh on James Morrison- stop. making. music.) but I have to listen to it a couple more times. OBLIGATORY PICTURE POST: Jaya found this outside her door at her new apartment the other day:
WHAAAAA??
WHAAAAA?? is right. Someone, evidently, went smashy-smashy on their 40" (ohhhh for realssss) TV.
