Rings. No, RINGS! Eh. Rrrrings!

That post title's not catchy AT ALL, but it did the trick.

This is a post about RINGS.

I don't wear rings that often because I have some kind of weird "hand-claustrophobia" (like, anythings touching or surrounding my hands is AWWWWFULLLLL. The worst? Wearing tight dish washing gloves with hands submerged in hot water. Anxiety attacks!!)

However, these rings have been gracing my fearful hands recently and them do not seem to mind.
I borrowed the bear and knuckle ring from Jaya (and by "borrow," I mean everyday for the past... since whenever she got them in the mail). Both from Leviticus Jewelry.
I don't know when Jaya turned into a 90's hippie chick, but she's sporting multiple rings from various flea markets (namely Torrance and L.A. fleas).

Ever since I saw this eyeball ring on Hoy Fashion, I knew I had to find one. IMPOSSIBLE YOU SAY!

Then about 2 weeks after seeing this ring, I find this at a flea market. BLAPITY BLAP:
p.s. Like that corpse-y dead hand of mine in the last photo?

Latest Haul.

The sister and I went to the Torrance Antique Faire/Flea Market the other week and here is a visual list of our awwwwesome purchases.

001/ Outfit
I took my "Giant Screamer's Formula For Eassssy Dressing", but exchanged the dress with an AA cream-colored crop top (from their factory outlet store in L.A.) and a black body-con black skirt from F21 (this skirt is my MOSSSST FAVORITE addition to my wardrobe- I wear at least 2-3 times a week).

Inside black bag: a $5 (working!!) Polaroid camera, a silver V-shaped ring (the seller said it was "big in the 70s"), a enamel bird pin, a 70s design layout book... possible some other things? I can't remember.

And those shoessss.....

002/ TUK Creepers:
IGOTSMESOMECREEPERS! I spied these pair at a vendors stall, but I thought they might be too small for me. But Jaya tried them on anyhow and, BLAPITY BLAP- they fit! I was able to talk down the vendor into giving me them for $13- YAY AREA (I would have totallyhappily paid the original $20 asking price, too).

003/ $1 JEWWWWELRY!:
There's this old man vendor that sells a pretttty bangin' array of cheap jewelry at the flea market (mostly everything is a sweet, sweet $1), and Jaya and I couldn't resist grabbing a handful of necklaces and shit.

Black heart necklace (this looks exactly like $45 vintage red heart necklace J bought at a antique mall in San Juan Capistrano):

(A crapppy photo of a) Unicorn pin:

004/ Ethnic-y bags
The tiny purple-ish one was a $1.50 (but from Deseret Industries Thrift Store); the other was $1 (interesting-ish fact: I saw an older Asian lady with this EXACT SAME BAG at Target. Weird... out of all of my purses...).

**Dance it out, people. DANCE. IT. OUT.

**A NICE LITTLE SEGUE: This is what I wore to go buy MORE clothes, aka "Nobody gonna BREAK-A MY STRIDE (pt. II), the Thrift Store Edition".

Nobody gonna BREAK-A MY STRIDE. (pt. I)

I have sooo many pictures, events, and other various miscellanea to post that I better get to steppin' before I (almost) completely forget and all of this becomes irrelevant. ENJOY.

Since our early years in highschool, my sister and I have ascribed to the "buy used" lifestyle. Over the years, we've patronized nearly every local thrift shop we're come across, gone to flea markets almost every Sunday, scoured randomly located antique malls, and have been known to find gems in unexpected places

We've managed to pick up almost every possible thing used, ranging from adorable dresses, to flammable polyester.... well, anything, to practically all of Jaya's living room ephemera (we even got a small shout out from apartmenttherapy.com!).

Ahhhh... I'm taking longer that I thought to post what I want to talk about and now I'm just rambling. Allls I gots to say before I kill this baby (hahahaha! a joke maybe only Jaya will get. or anyone who likes "dead baby" jokes.) is: BUY USED WHEN YOU CAN.

Just get it over with and given into peer pressure because ALL THE COOL KIDS ARE DOING IT.

Now let's kill this baby.

PART ONE: The Flea Market Experience.

001/ Me, me, me:
First, here is what I wore. And you have to trust me when I tell you that I'm not unhappy, but that's how I look like, ummmm, moooost of the time? I wished that I could've styled myself a littttle bit better (fix my shirt, pull down my chin, maybe smile), but you know what folks? IT HAPPENED. Deal with it. If you're curious about what I'm wearing, just click on the photo and BOOOM, answers revealed!
Frontierland.

002/ Others first:
I thought beyond myself (which is truly a concept when it comes to shopping) and got some clothes for my Etsy store, which, admittedly, is realllly lacking.

I was going to keep this red/gold glitter wrap dress for myself, but then I realized, "Hmmm, I already own a dress similar to this." But if it doesn't sell THEN IT'S MINE, allll mine.

Now this dress. I LOVE this dress. I love the color; I love the hand-sewn lace on the neckline; I love length and look of the skirt portion. Unfortunately, however, it's not my size. IT'S NOT MY SIZE! But I know in my heart of hearts some lady out there will just kill it, KILL IT, in this peachy number.

003/ Now for the excitement:
I went into this flea market looking for what I always look for: shirts and eyeglasses; instead, I come away a pair of slamming boots and an adorable white dress.

The dress looks really unflattering in this photo but, again, trust me, it's adorable. Yes, it does look like white Hefty bag with eyelet cutouts, but put a belt on and call it a day! And (again) I ain't angry. Hahahaha.... gettin' faced by my face! Ohhhh, face!
Eyelet dress.

Now the boots. They are Guess by Georges Marciano and they are RIDICULOOOOUUUS. Am I right? Normally, I wouldn't look twice at this type of boot (the pointy toe made them questionable) but when I realized that they were my size I tried them on and YES.
New boots.
New boots.
New boots.
New boots.

I'm tired. I'll post a picture of how I wore my two new purchases on my next post. Outie 5000.

For Part Two, thrift store finds. YAAAAY!

12.08.2009

Because my sister dressed better than me this weekend.

BIG UPS to my sister for going outside of her black/grey box and injecting (ohhhh, personal jab, Word Jumble!) some color into her outfit this weekend.

What she wore:
+Blonde hair: AU NATUREL. Hhahhaha.
+Sunglasses: newly acquired Mosley Tribe's in Tortoise.
+Heart Necklace: Vintage from an antique mall in SJC, CA.
+Ratty hoodie: Fairfax Flea Market.
+Denim Jacket: Target.
+Grey V: Misc.
+ZAZZY skirt: Salvation Army.
+Thigh highs: American Apparel.
+Suede boots: ?? Ebay?

p.s. That vintage heart necklace was one of the best purchases IN HER LIFE.

p.p.s. Because I can't stop listening to this song on this crisply cold, yet sunny day:

OMG. GOALS I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW I HAD? ACHIEVED!

image via apartmenttherapy.com via Kaya via AWESOME
Thanks to Kaya and her photo taking, photo uploading, and general flickr photo skills my somewhat newly accquired CAROUSEL OF DREAMS was featured on apartmenttherapy.com and... HOLY MOLY. BEYOOOOND FUCKING EXCITED. (all CAPS necessary.) The roundup post featured unconventional and/or repurposed jewelry storage ideas. Also included in the post was a vintage (or is it antique? Is there a difference? Oh wait, that's right -- no one cares.) ice cube tray and a vintage (natch) mug holder dealie. This more than makes up for the tetanus that I was almost FOR SURE at risk for when handling it pre-cleaning. No one likes lockjaw, people.

"It's like killing a unicorn, with like, a bomb."

On (the 2nd) Sunday (of the month), we went to the Rose Bowl Flea Market and it was SAD. My natural hatred of people usually sets my mood for the day, but the prices and lack of inspiration made me extra pissy and ultra people-hate-y. $15 for a rusted out metal milk crate? $120 for a scratched up table? Indie/hipster gals and dicks looking the same as they did LAST year? I love people watching, but what's the point if everyone looks the same? Clean out your closets and get new clothes! Annnnnnyway, I tried to shake up my look (well, Jaya heavily "suggested" I go this route) and wore over-the-knee socks. Yes. I crammed my meaty calves and crackling knees in some Target-bought black socks.
The only picture of me with least amount of "moon-face."
Jaya went her tradish-y self while proclaiming her love for Coca-Cola.
Lovin the color of the background sky. I'm sure Jaya'll want a shirt in that color.
Highlights of the flea market:
On left: Just like me, with the awkward posing and freaky foot. On right: Going for the middle-school-yearbook classic picture pose of "hand underneath chin".
Should we have gotten this? Maybe. It's the best Mormon wedding dress/muumuu.
If it's another billion-ty months before I go back to the Rose Bowl Flea, I'm okay with that.

You Will Cry Yourself to Sleep After You See This

Get a grip on yourselves people because what I'm about to show you is like whoa. Meet my necklace charm -- THE CA-CLAW!: (actually, 3/4 of the actual size) Made from spent bullet casings (so says the nice toothless(ish) man who made it) this mini behemoth is the size of a baby's fist and weighs as much as a hatchback Honda Civic. This is #4 of my Creepy (And a Little Dangerous to Wear) Talons necklace collection. I'm pumping iron so that I don't wimp out while wearing this necklace. Until someone (The Yarpist (aka Kaya)) gets their grubby hands off my camera, photographic evidence of my other not-nearly-as-awesome talon necklaces will have to wait.
